Shanghai Youth Jing-kun Opera Troupe Performs in Beijing

The Shanghai Youth Jing-kun Opera Troupe was established in July, 2006 by the Shanghai Theatre Academy China. At the very beginning of 2008, the troupe will go to Beijing to perform at the National Theatre and Chang’an Grand Theatre. It will be a marvelous chance for the one-year-old troupe to present its theatrical achievements to Beijing audiences.

The Peking Opera The Royal Lady of the Grand Tang Dynasty, co-starring by Yuan Yingming, student of Peking Opera master Mei Baojiu, and performers with Shanghai Youth Jing-kun Opera Troupe, will be staged at the National Theatre on January, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2008. The Peking Opera repertoire is about a legendary romance between the Tang emperor Li Longji and his concubine Yuang Yuhuan.

Several outstanding Peking Opera highlights will be performed at the Chang’an Grand Theatre on January, 5th. The Peking Opera Female Warriors of the Yangs, directed by Sun Yuanyi with the China National Peking Opera Company, will also be staged there, on January 6th.

Performers with the Shanghai Youth Jing-kun Opera Troupe are all outstanding students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy China. The troupe was set up to provide Peking-Kun Opera students with more opportunities to practice.
