Exclusive interview: legal protection of Chinese intangible cultural heritage(I)

Have you ever heard people from western culture obsessed with Chinese Beijing Opera and singing it in English around the world? Here it is.

In early March, China Daily Online filmed a video containing an interview about China's first law for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) adopted by the National People’s Congress, China's top legislature, on February 25th, 2011. The video includes a three-person interview with UK actor known as Monkey King who performs in Chinese Beijing Opera, an official from the UNESCO and “Zongren” transmitter Bai Dacheng. The Chinese intangible cultural heritage art of “Zongren” is a miniaturized art form of Beijing Opera. Bai Dacheng’s job is not only to perform the art, but to pass down his skills to an apprentice. The purpose of the interview is to discuss ways to better preserve Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage by law. Also included in the film is the foreign Monkey King performing his version of Beijing Opera.
