The following is a custom in the region south of the Five Ridges: “eating spring vegetables in Spring Equinox.” Spring vegetables are called “spring green Artemisia” by the townsmen. Actually, it is a kind of wild three-colored amaranth. Every Spring Equinox, all the villagers go to pick spring vegetables afield, which are commonly seen light green and slender palm-length stems. The collected spring vegetables are used as ingredients of soup, which is called “spring soup.” In the spring of a year, people pray for peace at home and healthy bodies.
