The Autumn Equinox is approaching. In a variety of customs and festivals, wine is indispensable, while grape wine is preferred. In the ancient Chinese poem,A Song of Liangzhou, there is a line that goes: "Enjoying beautiful grape wine of moonlight cups". It is seen as part of traditional Chinese culture. The 4th Yantai International Wine Festival is starting in this moment of beauty.

The People's Government of Yantai held a press conference in Beijing recently, announcing that the 4th Yantai International Wine Festival will begin on September 23 this year in Yantai city. The theme is "Developing Brands, Spreading Culture and Promoting Cooperation". The Municipal Party deputy secretary, mayor of Yantai, Zhang Jiangting, said the wine exhibition will set 600 international standard booths, including wine and tourism of wine culture, 300 booths each. More than 50,000 merchants are expected to participate. Among them, 2,500 foreign businessmen are to be invited. The preparatory work will highlight the five major sections and characteristics.

Yantai is one of the 14 coastal open cities of China. It is the largest grape and wine production base, and also the birthplace of Chinese wine brewing industrialization. In 1892, Mr. Zhang Bishi established the Changyu Pioneer Wine Company in Yantai, opening a new era in China's industrial production of wine. Over the years, the wine industry has been persistently nurtured as a pillar in the economic development of Yantai. At present, the grape planting area in Yantai is about 210 thousand Mu; the amount of wine and the related enterprises are more than 150. The annual production of wine is 250,000 tons, accounting for 80% of the wine production in Shandong Province, and one third of the total in China. The annual sales income is 12.5 billion Yuan, forming the scale and chain of development pattern, with Changyu, COFCO Great Wall Wine, Veyron and a number of well-known enterprises and famous products. Among them, Yantai Changyu wine ranked No. 7 in the global wine industry with 890 million U.S. dollars in sales in 2008. In 2009, the sales revenue of Changyu was 7.3 billion, and it has become China’s and even Asia's largest integrated wine production enterprise. It is precisely because of the special contribution made by Yantai and Changyu wine to the development of world wine that Yantai was named "International Vine and Wine City" by the International Vine and Wine Office in 1987, the only city to win this award in Asia. In 1989, the Chinese government set up the National Wine Quality Supervision and Inspection Center in Yantai. In 2002, the General Administration of Quality Supervision approved the Protection of Origin to “Yantai wine".
