Wei Liucheng, Party chief of Hainan Province, announces the opening of the Hainan Week.

Hainan Province in south China began its week-long culture show yesterday at the World Expo by displaying many of its folk arts and tourist attractions at the Baosteel Stage in Zone B.

Artists from the island province staged a performance called "Hainan Island" at the opening ceremony, which was attended by the provincial governor, Luo Baoming.

Luo said Hainan had made great efforts to become an international tourist destination. "The Expo is an ideal platform for Hainan to showcase its beauty, livability, and pursuit of green, low-carbon and sustainable development," he added.
