The 4th China International Violin Competition closes in Qingdao

The 4th China International Violin Competition, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and undertaken by Qingdao Municipal Government, closed at Qingdao Grand Theater on Oct 29. Yang Zhi, deputy party committee secretary of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Culture Ministry, Chen Peng, deputy director of Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, and Luan Xin, deputy mayor of Qingdao, attended the prize-awarding ceremony and closing concert.

Nine prizes were presented to the winners on Oct 29. Six finalists were present at the ceremony and played some of the competition repertoire. The first prize winner, Jee Won Kim, played the classical violin concerto Butterfly Lovers at the end of the ceremony, while other prize winners also showed their excellent playing skills.

Hu Kun, professor at the UK’s Royal Academy of Music, served as president of the jury panel, and Tong Weidong, professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, Yu Lina, professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and other renowned violinists from the US, UK, France, Japan, Korea, Romania and Israel were included in the jury lists.
