Let’s Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Museums

 

The audience couldn’t help but be enthralled by renowned pianist Li Yundi and musician Leehom Wang’s performance of the pop song Descendant of the Dragon at the 2012 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. The metal dragon on Wang’s guitar was especially eye-catching.

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2012 is the year of the Dragon. As Descendants of the Dragon, the Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival with great honor for their long history.

Off the stage, many Chinese museums are celebrating the festival with different kinds of Dragon-themed exhibitions. Visitors are able to discover the rich history and traditions of the Chinese Dragon Culture through images and artifacts. The Chinese refer to their totem as “Loong”.

The history of the Chinese Dragon shows us a variety of vivid images and the evolution of it. As the witness of Chinese development, the Chinese Dragon permeates the Chinese civilization and has been shaping their culture until today. There is a strong connection between the Chinese Dragon Culture and the Chinese nation. In every part of China, Loong is the eternal symbol of the Chinese.
