Moscow Circus’s Show Storm in Beijing

The 129 years-old Moscow Circus

Founded in 1880, the Moscow Circus is one of the oldest circuses in the world. Since the reign of Catherine the Great, the circus has played an important role in the rich cultural traditions of Russia. Here, the circus is regarded as an art form on par with the ballet or opera, a showcase for highly skilled and creative artists.

The circus became very popular with the Russian people in the 19th century and quickly became the most respected and loved circus in Russia.

Through the establishment of state circus schools in Moscow and other major cities, the circus developed in quality in other countries, and from the 1950`s became a highly successful cultural export, making frequent tours to the United States and Europe.

With its rich tradition and enviable reputation, the Moscow Russian Circus remains the standard by which others are judged. With approximately 20 performers and duration of two hours (including one intermission), "The Moscow Circus" enjoyed highly successful tours in the United States during the 2002-2006.

Also in 2006, the Moscow Circus became the first Russian Circus to tour Jakarta, Indonesia with great success. Hundreds of thousands of people at the Performing Arts Centers throughout this country, as well as the visitors to the famed Dolly wood and Silver Dollar City theme parks have enjoyed this production. The premier tour was filmed by PBS station WOUB, and was awarded the highest national TV "Tilly" award, and is currently being broadcast.
