10. Pipa

The pipa is a four-stringed Chinese musical instrument, belonging to the stringed category of instruments. Sometimes called the Chinese lute, the instrument has a pear-shaped wooden body with a varying number of frets ranging from 12 to 26.

There have been different versions concerning the origin of pipa. Traditional Chinese narrative prefers the story of the Chinese princess who was sent to marry a barbarian king during the Han Dynasty, and the pipa was created so she could play music on horseback to soothe her longings.
