Faces of China's museums

Power Station of Art is presenting an exhibition about architecture called Spectacle: 12 Presentations of Contemporary Museum Architecture in China. China now has 3,589 museums. From 2010 to 2011 one museum opened to the public every day in China. Curators Zhang Ming, Bo Bing and Zhang Jiajing said they are obliged to initiate in-depth discussion about the subject. The show presents not only models, photos and blueprints, but also architects and artists' interpretations for the museum designs they created.

9 am-5 pm, May 18-July 18. Power Station of Art, 200 Huayuangang Road, Shanghai. 021-3110-8550.

Capturing fleeting time

Contemporary artist Tang Guo is holding a solo exhibition titled The Rhyme of Ruins. Tang's art brings traditional Chinese ink painting into a contemporary context. He says he has spent years capturing ghosts and fixing them on paper. "Deeply immersed in the ruins of a bleak village and deserted temple, I am here to discover fleeting moments from the history of time."

10 am-6 pm, until June 10. ShanghART Gallery, Building 16, 50 Moganshan Road, Shanghai. 021-6359-3923.

Emotional images

Fans of Araki Nobuyoshi can go to Times Museum in Guangzhou to flip through the exhibited 120 photos to explore the Japanese photographer's intimate emotions for his wife. While some photographers try to strike a strong visual impact and arouse the imagination of a story through a single photo, Nobuyoshi is known for building a story through a great number of photos, presenting a series as a book. The photos displayed at Times Museum have a wide time span from 1971 to 2012. Nobuyoshi captures the departures of his wife and pet cat in a plain, sad tone.

10 am-6 pm, daily until June 9 (closed on Mondays). Times Museum, Times Rose Garden, Huangbian Beilu, Baiyun Avenue, Baiyun district, Guangzhou.

Vanished youth on stage

Popular comedy company Mahua FunAge has joined the trend in the entertainment industry of paying tribute to vanished youth. Its latest production, Charlotte's Pain, will be staged at Guangzhou Opera House this weekend. The hero in the drama goes back to his high school times and rewrites of his disappointing life in a dream. But he is unable to wake up from the dream. The production reflects how difficult it is for people to summon courage to face reality. The drama is also peppered with Mahua FunAge's signature teasing about hot issues, with the characters making fun of famous real estate businessmen, sports stars and movie directors. It also presents a hilarious remake of the popular TV talent show The Voice of China.
