Senegalese Girl Studies Chinese Medicine

Awa is one of the numerous African students that come to China each year to pursue their dreams in the country. According to the Ministry of Education, tens of thousands of international students were awarded for Chinese Government Scholarships in 2011. Over 20 percent of these scholarships were provided to African students, which mean China has helped over 6000 African students pursue their career goals.

At present, more than 20 thousand African students are currently studying in China. The past decade has seen more than 70 thousand come to China for advanced education, with over 30 thousand on Chinese Government Scholarships.

The director-general of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education Zhang Xiuqin, says the increase in African students coming to China is playing an important role in boosting China-Africa friendship.

Zhang Xiuqin, Dept. Director of Ministry of Education, said, "Over the past decade, the number of African students studying in China has increased at a rate higher than other international students. We've received more than 70,000 African students; and these students have promoted the friendship between China and Africa."

Awa told us she wants to open her own clinic in Senegal, after she graduates next year. Her ambition, and her passion for Chinese medicine, seems sure to lead her towards a bright future.
