Raree Show

Raree show is often misunderstood from its Chinese name (Xi yang Jing) that it could have come from the West. In fact, it is one of the most traditional Chinese crafts, dating back to the Mongol Yuan dynasty (1271-1368).

Raree show practitioners are required to be skillful in speech, music, teasing and singing in common languages as well as adept at funny movements. This skill is almost lost in history because of its intricacy and can be regarded as one of China’s most treasured traditional crafts.
