Chinese Malaysian student Zyson Kang Zy Sun won first prize in the Junior category in NASA’s Lunar Loo Challenge. The 9-year-old Zyson is a third-grade student from SJK (C) Pin Hwa No 1 Primary School. His design recently triumphed over 900 participants from 85 countries to bag the top prize in the Junior category in NASA’s Lunar Loo Challenge 2020.

According to Malaysian official media, Zyson’s “Spacesuit Lunar Toilet” can fit into an astronaut’s spacesuit and create a vacuum to automatically suck up liquid with no need for energy.

NASA opened its Lunar Loo Challenge in June 2020, looking for space toilets capable of working in both microgravity and lunar gravity.

Malaysian Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his congratulations through the Malaysian National Palace’s official account Saturday to Zyson, wishing him greater success while also praising him as a credit to Malaysia and an example to the Malaysian people.
