1. On January 12, on the signing ceremony of 7 agreements regarding economic trade and culture between China and Portugal hosted by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio at Hebei hall of the Great Hall of the People, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of China International Culture Association (CICA) and Meng Zhihao, Chairman of Portugal’s Orient Foundation jointly entered into cultural exchange cooperation agreement during the two conferences from 2005 to 2007. Vice Chairman Liu Deyou hosted a banquet for Chairman Meng Zhihao, and Sun Xiaohong, Assistant Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the banquet.

2. On January 20, the 4th Chinese Culture Summer Camp and Winter Camp hosted by CICA were opened in Beijing and Tianjin respectively, and about 100 middle school students from ROK and China attended the camp.

3. On January 20, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Hishinuma Yoshiaki, the principal of the Japan Drama Troupe. The two parties discussed the cooperation on drama performance in this year. Li Xin, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

4. On January 25, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA attended New Year’s Tea Party held by Beijing Office of Urasenke New Year’s Tea Party.

5. On January 28, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Kenichi Kodama, the principal of Japan Band Music Steering Committee. The two parties discussed issues regarding the 3rd Sino-Japanese Youth Band Music Convention which would be jointly held by the two parties in August.

6. On January 28, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Junko Koshino, the famous Japanese fashion designer, and the two parties discussed issues regarding the Japanese Fashion Show jointly held by the two parities in May. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

7. From February 4 to 22, a 34-member Chinese ethnic art group assigned by CICA visited Australia and New Zealand for performances.

8. On February 10 to 23, a 9-member art group led by composer Lv Yuan attended the Concert for 55 Years’ Works of Lv Yuan jointly held by CICA and China Performance Arts Association in Boston, USA.

9. On February 25, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA hosted a banquet for Tomoko Itou, Chairman of Association of Japan-China Theatre Communications of Japan. The two parties discussed matters regarding drama exchange. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

10. On March 1, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Chiyong Baizi, the Secretary of National Liaison Meeting of Japan Chorus. The two parties discussed matters regarding Japan Chorus Concert held in August in Beijing. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

11. On March 15, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for the delegation of Japan International Exchange Foundation led by Gaozhangci. The two parties highly commended the Beijing Office of the Foundation for its work and discussed further cooperation henceforward. Li Xin, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting and banquet.

12. On March 21, Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture met with Iwai, the former Chairman of Gunma Prefecture of Japan and Kenichi Kodama, the principal of Japan Band Music Steering Committee. The two parties discussed the 3rd Sino-Japanese Youth Band Music Convention which would be jointly held by the two parties in August in China.

13. From March 22 to 29, a Japanese calligraphy exhibition featuring 400 works was held in the National Art Museum of China under the sponsorship of China International Culture Association, China International Exhibition Center and Japan 21st Century Yenching Calligraphy Association. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA and Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture were present at the opening ceremony.

14. From March 28 to April 2, a 50-member group of Liaoning Art Troupe assigned by CICA attended the 2005 Budapest Spring Art Festival in Hungary with song and dance performances and traditional Chinese music at the invitation of Budapest Art Festival Committee.

15. On April 11, the press conference for the Japanese Fashion Show was held at the Ministry of Culture under the sponsorship of CICA and the Japanese side. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA, Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture and representatives of China Performing Arts Agency were present at the press conference.

16. On April 12, a total of 53 non-governmental organizations including CICA and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, issued Appeal for Sino-Japan Peace and Friendship in Tokyo to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory of World War against Fascism and Chinese people's war against Japan’s aggression.

17. On April 16, CICA and Japan International Fine Art Exchange Association jointly held the Dry Paint Sculpture Exhibition of Saburo Kosugi at National Art Museum of China.

18. On April 21, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Professor Masahisa Suganuma, the Japanese visiting scholar. The two parties discussed economic issues in China. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting and banquet.

19. On April 21, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with the delegation led by Sato, the Producer of the Japanese children’s musical play Kitty, and the two parties discussed the promotion of the musical play in China. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

20. On April 22, Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture met with Hiroyuki Suzuki, Chairman of Japan Junko Koshino Clothing Company, and the two parties exchanged views on Japanese Fashion Show in Beijing.

21. On April 27, under the arrangement of CICA, a 17-member delegation of China Youth Art Troupe consisted of teachers and students of China National Children’s Center attended the 18th Bogota International Book Fair in Columbia and the 2nd Olin International Art Festival in Mexico at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of Columbia and the local government of the capital Tlalnepantla of Mexico City with performances of national instrumental music and dance.

22. On May 4, a 32-member art group of Hunan Kunqu Opera Troupe sent by CICA attended Estonia Oriental Drama Festival and visited Latvia at the invitation of Estonia Record Company. President of Estonia and his wife, Premier and the Minister of Culture, watched the performance at the opening ceremony.

23. On May 13, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA hosted a banquet for Junko Koshino, the famous Japanese fashion designer. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the banquet.

24. On May 14, the Fashion Show of Junko Koshino, the famous Japanese fashion designer was jointly held by CICA, CPAA and Junko Koshino Joint-stock Company of Japan at Beijing Hotel. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA and Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture watched the show.

25. On May 16, Duke Franz of Bavaria of Germany visited China at the invitation of CICA. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for the delegation led by the Duke, and Wang Yansheng, Assistant Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the banquet.

On June 2, Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture and Vice Secretary-General of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for the delegation led by Mr. Cath Manning, the CEO of Western Austria Symphony Orchestra, and the two parties discussed the performance of Western Austria Symphony Orchestra in China in 2006.

28. On June 15, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Saito Koji, the researcher for Kuo Mojo in Japan. The two parties discussed academic issues regarding Kuo Mojo.

29. On June 16, Sun Xiaohong, Assistant Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture hosted a banquet for Madame Maria, Chairman of Columbia Cali Culture Promotion Association. A 30-member art group of Tianjin Beijing Opera Theater visited Columbia and Mexico for performances at the second half of September under the arrangement of CICA. Madame Maria’s special visit to China was mainly for the purpose of visiting Tianjin Beijing Opera Theater and discussing relevant issues.

30. On June 22, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA hosted a banquet for the delegation led by Xiaoxiongxu, the Vice-Minister of Japan International Exchange Foundation. Two parties exchanged views on further strengthening Sino-Japanese cultural exchange.

31. On July 7, under the arrangement of CICA, a 25-member China youth art troupe, consisted of performers of Beijing Dance Academy and China National Children’s Center, e visited Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia with performances of national instrumental music and dance at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of the abovementioned countries.

32. On July 10, a delegation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries led by Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA paid a friendly visit to Japan at the invitation of Japan and Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association of Japan.

33. On August 20, Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the CICA jointly held the Japanese chorus performance of “Satiation of the Demon” in Beijing. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA attended the opening ceremony.

34. On September 3, The 3rd Linyi Saint of Calligraphy Culture Festival, the series cultural festival in celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Birth of calligraphy master Wang Xizhi jointly held by CICA, Department of Culture of Shandong Province, the People’s Government of Linyi City government and Chinese Calligraphers Association, etc. was held in Linyi. Officials from the embassies of Italy, Venezuela and Peru and delegations of Japan 21st Century Yenching Calligraphy Association, the School of Yasuyama Calligraphy and Chamber of Commerce of Australia attended the cultural activity. Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture was present at the festival.

35. On September 4, CICA, CPAA and Japanese party jointly held the Ikebana Talent Show of Japan. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA was present at the opening ceremony.

36. On September 26, a 35-member art group of Tianjin Beijing Opera Theater sent by CICA visited Columbia and Mexico for performances of traditional Beijing opera programs at the invitation of Columbia Cali Culture Foundation and other organizations.

37. On September 27, two craftsmen sent by CICA attended Hand-woven Handicrafts Expo in Venezuela under the arrangement of CICA.

38. On September 20, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Tomoko Itou, the principal of Association of Japanese Drama. The two parties discussed future collaborations.

39. On September 20, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Hioki Zheng, the principal of Dawn Chorus of Japan and discussed issues regarding cooperation intention of the chorus with the Chinese side.

40. In September, the Chinese version of the Japanese cartoon music play Hello Kitty sponsored by CICA and organized by Beijing Guolun New Arts Center started tour performances in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, etc.

41. On October 19, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Asari Keita, Art Director of the Japan's Four Seasons Troupe, and the two parties discussed issues concerning Sino-Japanese cultural exchange. 42. From October 23 to November 1, CICA and Beijing Cultural Development Foundation jointly held the individual drawing exhibition of Chinese-German painter Yang Qi at National Art Museum of China. Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA was present at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

43. From October 20 to 27, The Turkey painter Yazal Challon and his wife visited China and held the individual drawing exhibition at the invitation of CICA. 45. On November 10, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for a 7-member delegation of Japan and China Cultural Exchange Association led by Tsujii Takashi.

46. From November 10 to December 29, CICA, China International Art Exhibition Exchange Center and Japan International Exchange Foundation jointly held Knowing Japan through Poster exhibition in Dalian, Shenyang, Ningbo and Chongqing, etc.

47. From December 4 to 7, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA attended the first meeting of China, Japan and ROK Cultural Exchange Forum in Seoul.

48. On December 16, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Uyama Utoxi, the artistic adviser of Japan New National Theatre. The two parties exchanged views on issues regarding the performance of Chinese drama Frog in Japan.

49. On December 16, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Mr. Yoshihiko Kawakami, the representative of Soka University of Japan in Beijing Office. The two parties discussed the establishment meeting of Beijing Representative Office of Soka University of Japan in Beijing in March, 2006.
