Events of China International Culture Association (2009)

1. From January 30 to February 9, at the invitation of Australia-China Council in Australia and National Commission for Culture and Arts of the Philippines, a 4-member delegation led by Pan Zhenzhou, CICA Vice Chairman visited Australia and Philippines from January 30 to February 9, 2009.

2. On January 31, under the sponsorship of China Arts and Entertainment Group and CICA, “Meet on Chinese Festivals 2009” Sydney Spring Festival Evening & closing ceremony of Year of China in Australia was held in Sydney, Australia. A 4-member delegation headed by Pan Zhenzhou, CICA Vice Chairman attended the event.

3. China International Culture Association sponsored relevant Russian publishing houses with $ 15,000 in publishing series of Chinese Encyclopedia of Moral Culture.

4. On February 20, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with the delegation led by Tsuda Zhongyan, the Executive Director of Japanese Youth Culture Center. The two parties discussed the enhancement of exchange and cooperation on Beijing Opera.

5. On February 23, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Itou Bazi, Chairman of the Association of Japan-China Theatre Communications of Japan.

6. From March 2 to 4, invited by Yokoi Yutaka, Japanese Consul General in Shanghai, CICA representatives attended the welcome reception of Suzhou premiere of Kunqu Opera The Peony Pavilion (Sino-Japanese version) in consul general’s residence of Japan in Shanghai on March 3.

7. From March 12 to 14, a delegation led by Pan Zhenzhou, Vice Chairman of CICA watched Suzhou premiere of Kunqu Opera The Peony Pavilion (Sino-Japanese version) in Suzhou.

8. From March 22 to 24, at the invitation of Qianshi Dazongjiang, the 15th successor of Japan Tea Ceremony Urasenke and Chairman of Urasenke Tea Ceremony Short-term College of Tianjin University of Commerce, a 3-member delegation led Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA attended the 12th graduation ceremony of Urasenke Tea Ceremony Short-term College of Tianjin University of Commerce and the thanksgiving tea ritual in Tianjian.

9. On March 25, at the invitation of master Sen Genshitsu, the 15th successor of Japan tea-Urasenke, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA and his wife attended the memorial tea party in “Qingjiao Temple” of Japan Tea Ceremony Urasenke.

10. From March 31 to April 4, Chengdu Handwriting Exhibition of Japanese Yanjing Calligraphy Exchange Association in the 21st Century was opened in Chengdu. The event was sponsored by CICA and presented by Qiming Beijing Oriental Culture Exchange Center.

11. On April 29, under the sponsorship of CICA, CSCFC, All China Federation of Trade Unions and Navy Political Department of the Chinese People Liberation Army, the Our Sunny Lives - Concert of Songs Composed by Lv Yuan was held in Great Hall of the People.

12. From April to October, Chinese Power-2009 Chinese International Sculpture Yearbook Exhibition was held in Beijing, Hangzhou and Guangzhou among other cities under the sponsorship of CICA.

13. From May 7 to 14, at the invitation of CICA, a 2-member delegation led by Lutefei Cheli, Director of Aiermangzha Youth Sports Culture Center of Tunisia visited China. They visited the National Swimming Center, the Bird Nest and other culture and sports facilities in Beijing as well as Shanghai World Expo and Shanghai International Culture Association.

14. On May 15, “Premiere of 2009 Japanese Traditional Art in China ‘Kyogen’ ” was held in Chang’an Grand Theater in Beijing under the auspices of Japan Execution Committee of “Premiere of 2009 Japanese Traditional Art in China ‘Kyogen’ ” and Japanese National Art Exchange Financial Group. A delegation led by Mansaku Nomura, a Japanese "Kyogen" master and his eldest son Nomura Mansai, a famous artist took part in the performance in China.

15. On May 18, supported by CICA and sponsored by CPC Sanmenxia Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, “The 15th Three Gorges International Tourism Festival along the Yellow River” was held in Sanmenxia on May 18, 2009.

16. From May 20 to 24, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA visited Xi’an for “The 2nd China Poetry Festival” and joined Murakami Tatsumi, Chairman of China-Japan Friendship Center in the activities and study visits.

17. On May 27, news conference of “The 2nd Chinese International Youth Art Week” was held in the Ministry of Culture.

18. From June 25 to July 1, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan and Bakeyev Foundation in Kyrgyzstan, “The Journey of Peace”, a delegation of artists visited Kyrgyzstan for exchanges under the arrangement of CICA and China Foundation for International Studies.

19. From June 27 to July 13, jointly sponsored by CICA and China Arts and Entertainment Group, "The 2nd China International Youth Art Week" was held in Beijing. It consisted of 13 programs, including performances at the opening and closing ceremony, forum session of “Youth • Dream • Responsibility”, Report to the Motherland—Student Concert in Honor of Professor Guo Shuzhen with a Career of 62 Years and Report to the Motherland—Student Concert in Honor of Professor Jin Tielin with a Teaching Career of 45 Years and other nine programs.

20. On June 27, the opening ceremony of “The 2nd China International Youth Art Week” —— Night of Prestige School • Young Smiles was held in Beijing Century Theater. Sun Jiazheng, the Vice-Chairman of CPPCC, CFLAC Chairman, CICA Chairman, Zhao Shaohua, Vice Minister of Culture, Wu Zuqiang, Honorary Chairman of the Central Conservatory of Music and Art Consultant of “Art Week”, Ahn Leslie, Vice Chairman of Cambridge University, William Aiman, British Ambassador to China, Vall Sim, Chairman of Austrian Mozart Opera House and other senior officials and guests were present at the opening ceremony.

21. On June 27, “The 2nd China International Youth Art Week”, with forum session of “Youth • Dream • Responsibility” was held in Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel. Ahn Leslie, Vice Chairman of Cambridge University, Ding Junjie, Vice Chairman of Communication University of China, Feng Xiaoyuan, Chairman of Lanzhou Ci'ai Experiment Art Vocational School, Vall Sim, Chairman of Austrian Mozart Opera House, Liu Yan, famous young dancer in China and other main speakers delivered speeches at the forum.

22. On June 9, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA attended the opening ceremony of Oil Painting of Japan Chikako Ikeguchi held in the National Art Museum of China. Fan Di’an, Director of National Art Museum of China, Shiokawa Masajuro, the Former Japanese Internal Affairs Minister and Minister of Education Ministry, Miyamoto Yuji, Japanese Ambassador to China, Chikako Ikeguchi, Japanese Painter, and Sakaiya Taichi, famous Japanese writer were also present at the opening ceremony.

23. On July 10, “The 2nd China International Youth Art Week”-Report to the Motherland—Student Concert in Honor of Professor Guo Shuzhen with a Career of 63 Years was held in Great Hall of the People. Li Lanqing, the Vice Premier of State Council and his wife, Huan Jianmin, Vice Chairman of National People’s Congress and his wife, Chen Zhili, Vice Chairman of National People’s Congress and other senior officials and guests watched the performance.

24. On July 11, “The 2nd China International Youth Art Week” ——Report to the Motherland—Student Concert in Honor of Professor Jin Tielin with a Career of 45 Years was held in Great Hall of the People. Chen Zhili, Vice Chairman of National People’s Congress, Zhao Shaohua, Vice Minister of Culture, Li Hongfeng, head of disciplinary inspection team of culture ministry, Professor Jin Tielin and other senior officials and guests watched the performance.

25. On July 13, the closing ceremony of “The 2nd China International Youth Art Week” -The Marriage of Figaro was held in Beijing Century Theater, bringing the art week to a full conclusion.

26. From July 20 to 29, at the invitation of CICA, a 3-member delegation of Dubai Avis Culture Foundation led by its secretary general visited China. The delegation visited Beijing, Quanzhou in Fujian Province, Guangzhou and Foshan in Guangdong Province.

27. From August 22 to September 1, at the invitation of Uzbekistan “Oriental Melody” International Music Festival, CICA and Shanghai International Culture Association jointly organized an 8-member art group of Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe to Uzbekistan for the 7th “Oriental Melody” International Music Festival from August 22 to September 1.

28. From August 25 to 29, a 2-member CICA delegation of study group visited Japan in preparations for the “Exhibition of Mei Lanfang”.

29. From September to October, CICA received Salama Mutamba, the director for External Relations of Egyptian Ministry of Culture, State Secretary and other 5 groups of “Special Contributors of Chinese Culture Center”. From September 9 to 16, Salama Mutamba, the director for External Relations of Egyptian Ministry of Culture, State Secretary visited Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai in China. From September 21 to 28, Hassam Galar Beebeejaun, Chairman of Mauritius Museum Council and his wife visited Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai in China. From October 16 to 25, Rui Buga, the Chief Editor of Malta Times visited Beijing, Xi’an, Shenzhen and Shanghai. From October 29 to November 2, Estelle Keller, the Deputy Director of Berlin Municipal Government International Relation visited Beijing and held talks with the Bureau for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture, Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and other related departments. From November 8 to 16, Serge Dossou-Yovo, the technical adviser for Minister of Benin Culture, illiteracy elimination and National Language Promotion Department visited Beijing, Qinghai and Shanghai in China. From December 11 to 20, Jacques Gies, the curator of Paris Ji America Museum visited Beijing, Tibet, Chengdu and Hangzhou.

30. From September 24 to 29, “Exhibition of Peking Opera Master - Mei Lanfang” jointly hosted by CICA, Memorial of Mei Lanfang and China-Japan Friendship Center was held in China-Japan Friendship Center in Tokyo, Japan.

31. On October 27, Liu Deyou, Former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with Lin Shengnan, Minister of Administration Department of Korean Embassy in China, and exchanged opinions on cultural exchanges among China, Japan and ROK.

32. From November 17 to 22, the premiere of Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion" (Sino-Japanese version) jointly sponsored by CICA, Shanghai International Culture Association and Shanghai International Arts Festival Center was held in Shanghai Lyceum Theatre. It was performed by Tamasaburo Bando, a famous Japanese kabuki master and Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre.

33. On November 27, CICA funded € 3300 to support the second volume of Brothers of Yu Hua which was translated by famous Slovak Sinologist Marian Galik.

34. On December 29, under the framework of the agreement between CICA and Portugal Fundação Oriente, the “New Year's Concert by City Symphony Orchestra in Portugal Lisbon”, jointly sponsored by CICA and Shanghai International Culture Association, was held in Shanghai Centre Theatre.

In 2009, the association held a lot of 34 activities, including 1 exhibition, 2 performances, 2 funded publication, 21 comprehensive exchange activities, 8 receptions of visits (including 6 receptions for special contributors from culture centers) and 2 outbound visits.
