这是中国新兴版画的繁荣期。新中国的文艺政策与新的现实生活，为版画的发展，开辟了广阔的前景，题材内容的广泛与艺术形式风格的多样化，是此时期版画的主要特色。描写社会主义社会的新人新事以及工农业生产建设的成就，是版画创作的主要内容。黑白木刻以外，套色版画、水印木刻、石版画、腐蚀版画以及其它综合版画多种不同的品种，均得到长足的发展，形成这一时期版画创作上百花齐放、万紫千红的繁荣局面。同时，正规版画教育的实施，培养了大量版画艺术人才，提高了版画的专业品味。可是“文革”十年却使版画走入了低谷，这是中国非常时期的一种特殊现象。
This was the heyday of China’s new print. The cultural policy and social life of New China reeled out a new canvas for the art’s development. Numerous works emerged with a broad range of subjects and diversified art styles and techniques. The most popular theme of this time was “new people and new stories”, as well as national achievements in agriculture, industry and social construction. Art forms ranged from black-and-white woodprint to chromatography, watermark, lithography, etching and many other composites, presenting a colourful picture of enormous variety. Meanwhile, programs of formal education in print art also turned out large numbers of art talents, lifting the professional standards of the whole craft. However, with the advent of the Cultural Revolution, print art fell into a steep decline.
