Annals on Bamboo

 

Zhu Shu Ji Nian(Annals on Bamboo) is the history of the Wei State in the Warring States Period (475-221BC). The book used to have no name. It was named later asJi Nian(Annals) because of its chronological style, and also named asZhu Shu(Book on Bamboo) because the origin one was written on bamboo, normally, it was calledZhu Shu Ji Nian (Annals on Bamboo).

There are altogether 13 sections, narrating the history of the Xia Dynasty (21stcentury - 17thcentury BC), the Shang Dynasty (17thcentury - 11thcentury BC), the Western Zhou Dynasty (11thcentury - 771BC), the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476BC) and the Warring States Period, which were sequenced according to the order of the year. Quite a lot of records in the book are different from traditional ones, and are closer to the facts. Besides, some records conform to the records onJiaguwen(inscriptions on animal bones and tortoise shells) and inscriptions on bronze. The book is of great reference value for the present study of the pre-Qin history.
