Xie Shoukang

 

Xie Shoukang, born inJiangxiProvincein 1894, wasChina's first envoy to theVatican.

He graduated from thePekingUniversityand got a PhD. Later, he studied inFranceandBelgiumand had a good command of French, as well as some accomplishments in culture and art.

The Belgian Royal Association accepted him as a member to award his achievements in culture.

In 1942, he was appointed asChina's first envoy to theVaticanand finished the term in 1946. In 1954, he was sent toVaticanas an envoy by theTaiwanauthorities. After the term expired in 1967, he returned toTaiwan.
