The Chinese Go Association was established in Beijing in November 1962. It is a member of the All-China Sports Federation.
In 1998, the association carried out a significant reform, calling off all the national teams except the National Youth Team. Contractual system was set up to manage all professional players. At the beginning of 2001, the Training Center of the Chinese Go Association was established.
Tasks of the association are:
* to organize public activities and increase public interests and participation in the game;
* to publish works on the game;
* to assist organizing national games;
* to train and select elite players;
* to study, formulate, and amend rules on the game;
* to approve ranking of go players;
* to examine and approve national coaches and judges.
Under the association there are the Technical Committee and the Judges Committee.
