Chinese Mountaineering Association

 

The Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) was founded on April 8, 1958. Its headquarters is in Beijing. It is a non-governmental organization and a member of the All-China Sports Federation. The CMA is China's only national organization for mountaineering. In October 1985, CMA became a formal member of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation.

Major tasks of the CMA are:

* to study and work out plans and measures for the development of mountaineering sport in China;

* to establish and guide the work of elite mountaineering teams and assist training of young mountaineers;

* to manage the national mountaineering team;

* to coordinate and organize training programs for athletes, coaches and judges;

* to set up evaluation standards of athletes, coaches, and judges;

* to work out plans and regulations for national competitions;

* to publicize the rules of mountaineering activities;

* to examine and approve the national records of mountaineering and rock climbing;

* to issue certificate to foreign mountaineers for their activities in China;

* to organize research programs;

* to conduct international exchanges and cooperation.

There are the National Committee, the General Office, the Climbing Competition Committee, the Mountaineering Adventure Committee, the Research and Environmental Protection Committee, and the Coaches Committee under the CMA.
