Comrade Mao Zedong Memorial in Shaoshan

 

 
Comrade Mao Zedong Memorial in Shaoshan is a revolutionary memorial that reflects the life story and outstanding contributions of Mao Zedong (1893-1976). Located at the foot of Shaoshan Mountain in Xiangtang City of Hunan Province, the memorial was opened to the public in 1964. It is a building complex in the architectural style of Suzhou Gardens, and takes up an area of 6,000 square meters.

The memorial has eight exhibition rooms, displaying many historical materials reflecting the revolutionary experiences and life story of Mao Zedong. Besides, there are three special exhibitions, namely Comrade Mao Zedong's Revolutionary Family, Sceneries Around Shaoshan, and Foreign Friends in Shaoshan.

The memorial boasts a collection of more than 10,000 pieces of historical materials, including cultural relics, documents and photos detailing the revolutionary stories of Mao Zedong. Among them, over 400 pieces belong to Class One collections. The exhibits include the bed Mao Zedong slept in his childhood,Records of the Grand Historianandthe Analects of Confuciushe once read, his diaries during the period of launching the peasant movement in Shanshan, and so on.
