Jilin Provincial Museum

The Jilin Provincial Museum, with the new site at No.90 People's Street of Changchun City, covers an area of 16,000 square meters and is divided into three parts: exhibition halls, relics storage building and office area. The building was originally built in Jilin City in the summer of 1951, but moved to the site of former Puppet Manchurian Imperial Palace for the last emperor Aixinjueluo Puyi in Changchun in 1954.

In the late 1970s to the 1980s, the exhibit halls respectively for the revolutionary history, the Puppet Imperial Palace relics, the archaeological findings and the natural history were separated from the museum one after another. In 1995, construction of the new Jilin Provincial Museum started and was completed at the end of 1997.

After more than half a century of enrichment and development, the Jilin Provincial Museum turned into a large art collection house, with more than 80,000 pieces of cultural relics on display, among which 144 pieces belong to Class One collection. The collection includes 11,000 pieces of precious paintings ranging from works of Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) to that of Qi Baishi of modern China, 20,000 pieces of pottery, jade, bronze and carpentry wares, and 26,000 pieces of natural specimens.

The Museum features two exhibit halls: the first section is arrayed for displays of the cultural heritage of Jilin Province, and the second is for natural resources development exhibition of the province. The cultural heritage exhibition hall houses 1,331 pieces of treasures from the Paleolithic Age to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Besides various kinds of temporary exhibitions, the Museum has held several exchange exhibitions among museums. The Exhibition of Zhang Daqian's Paintings has been held in museums in Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Qingdao cities.
