Dabrys Sturgeon

 

With the alias of Yangtze sturgeon orSha Lazi, it is a member of the Acipenseridae family of Acipenseriformes order, and its Latin scientific name isAcipenser dabryanus.    

It is a large fresh water fish with external appearance similar to Chinese Sturgeon, but there are some differences. Dabry's Sturgeon has more than 40 pieces of back fins, and the gill rakes are in the shape of triangular flakes, which are tightly arranged and the skin of juvenile fish is coarse; while the gill rakes of Chinese Sturgeon are puncheon-shaped, which are sparsely arranged, and the skin of juvenile fish is smooth.

Dabry's Sturgeon has the habit of upstream migration. It is mainly distributed in the Yellow River, Yangtze River and along the coast of East China Sea. Its spawning site is along the Yibin section of the Yangtze River.
