White-headed Leaf Monkey

With the alias of Colored Leaf Monkey, it belongs to the Cercopithecidae family of Primates order. Its scientific name is Presbytis leucocephalus (Latin), or White-headed Leaf Monkey (English).

It looks so much like Black Leaf Monkey in shape that some people mistake it for a subspecies of Black Leaf Monkey. Its head, crest hair, neck and upper-shoulder are all white, like wearing a white wind cap. There are white spots on the back of its hand and feet, and part of its tail is also white.

It lives in tropical and subtropical jungles, good at climbing, swinging among the trees as well as scaling cliffs. Usually it forms subgroups with family members, with certain regular scope, routes and relatively fixed habitat. It generally inhabits in rock caves and stone cracks on cliffs, feeding on young leaves, buds, flowers, and fruits.

White-headed Leaf Monkey is a species endemic to China, distributed in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region with narrow distribution and small quantity. It now requires urgent protection since there is only several hundred of it.
