 The First National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The First National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games was held inTianjinMunicipalityfrom November 8 to 12 and 1953. 395 athletes from 13 ethnic minorities took part in the Games.

The Games included competitions, performances and invitational performances. The competitions consisted of weightlifting, boxing, wrestling and archery. The performances comprised 22 varieties ofWushu(martial arts) competition and 9 kinds of equitation and the invitational performances included aerobatics, polo, Mongolian wrestling, etc. During the Games, 10 weightlifters created national records.

 The Second National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The Second National Traditional Ethnic Sports Games was held in the city ofHohhotin the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region fromSeptember 2 to 8, 1982. 863 athletes and coaches, including 593 athletes from ethnic minorities, from the country's 56 ethnic groups took part in the competitions of the Games. Besides competitions, the 68 performances also witnessed the participation of 800 athletes from 46 ethnic minority groups, attracting an audience of 800,000 people to the Games.

 The Third National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The Third National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games was held inUrumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region fromAugust 10 to 17, 1986, much larger than the last two ones in scale. 1,097 athletes from all the nation's ethnic groups took part in the competitions and performances. The Games included 7 competitions and 115 performances.

 The Fourth National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The FourthNational Traditional Ethnic Sports Games was held inNanning, the capital city ofSouthwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region fromNovember 10 to 17, 1991. The horseracing event of the Games is held inHohhot, hosted by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Altogether, 3,000 people, including athletes, coaches and Games staff from all the nation's ethnic groups, took part in the competitions and 120 performances. The Games also witnessed the participation of ethnic groups fromTaiwanfor the first time in its 30-year history.

 The Fifth National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The FifthNational Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games was held inKunming, the capital city ofSoutheast China'sYunnanProvince, fromNovember 5 to 12, 1995. The Games was larger than any of the last 4 ones as far as scale and the number of events was concerned. More than 9,000 people from 55 ethnic minorities participated in the Games and the Games had 11 competitions and 129 exhibition ones.

 The Sixth National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games

The Sixth National Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games was held inBeijingfromSeptember 24 to 30, 1999. A venue was also set up in the Tibet Autonomous Region and some of the events were held there from August 18 to 28. 6,000 athletes and coaches from the nation's all ethnic groups took part in the 13 competitions and 112 performances.
