The Second Chinese Arts Festival in Bahrain

The week-long Chinese Art Festival officially kicked off over the weekend in Bahrain. It's all part of an effort to boost ties between Manama and Beijing with more than 100 artists scheduled to participate.

The festival opened with "Chinese Red", a stunning dance performance.

A series of dances performed by the folk dance troupe "Little White Egret" from east China's Fujian Province wowed the audience.

The Chinese performers even integrated some Arabian elements into their dance and music, which of course won a lot applause.

Sheikh Khalid, Bahrain Foreign Minister, said, "The performances featuring arts from 56 Chinese ethnic groups were fascinating. And China is a friendly and successful country."

Hosted by the Embassy of China in Bahrain, the festival also showcased a range of Chinese embroidery works at the Bahrain Art Center, including Suzhou Embroidery, one of the four major Chinese styles.

The 58 exquisite embroidery pieces on display really pulled in the crowds.

An audience member said, "These embroidery works vividly depict the natural forms of animals with superb technique. They are just incredible!"

Xinjiang folk songs and dances as well as Shaolin kung fu will also be performed during the week-long event.
