Goings-on in China: The New iPad Arrives

Following hot on the heels of the iPad2, the new iPad launch (the iPad 3 that's not been labeled as the iPad 3) kicked off on March 7. Once again, Apple has taken the world by storm. The new iPad features a wealth of new technology over the previous version, including a superlative retina display, quad-core graphics A5X processor and an improved camera.

The new arrival caused quite an exciting response and the Chinese users on Weibo are expressing different views about the new gadget – some admirable, some skeptical.

User HAKUNAMATATA_鱼 wrote:"Who is going to Hong Kong? Will you do me a favor of buying ipad3 at the original price?"

User Zachariah wrote: “Why I feel a bit disappointed about the new creative improvements of iPad 3.”

User L_宋恒 wrote:“There is nothing new about ipad3, and it has degenerated as a machine featuring high-end hardware. Will you buy such an ipad?”

But for scalpers, the new iPad launch provides a potential cash cow. Now they are doing their best to attract those intending to buy Apple products.

User关健聪_jason wrote:"Ipad 3 for selling is now available, you can choose color, method of connection and storage on Ipad3, make a reservation now and get in April. For more info, please chat with me in the private channel.”

China is now a country of growing economic significance as it accounts for 7.5 percent of Apple’s global market share, presenting much room for growth. In addition, iPad dominates 50.8 percent of the tablet computer market in China, according to a survey released last year by iResearch, a research organization focusing on China's internet industry.

But Apple also finds itself in trouble as it is locked in a legal battle over its iPad trademark, causing retailers and resellers in more than 10 Chinese cities to take iPads off their shelves. It also raises fears that the new iPad may be banned from sale in the Chinese mainland.
