"Under the sky is the vast prairie, where the cows and the goats appear amid the tall grass when wind blows across." This is the true picture of the Inner Mongolian Prairie, and Hohhot City is just a jade studded on this great land.

Lying in the center part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hohhot is the capital city and the center of politics, economy, culture and science and technology of the autonomous region. Hohhot means black city in the Mongolian language. With Yinshan Mountain to its south, the Tuhei Tianchuan Plain in the middle and south, Qingshan Mountain with a peak of 228 meters above sea level to its north, Hohhot has the Yellow River running through its south, and some lakes such as the Daheihe Lake and the Qiangpanhe Lake lying in its boundary. With a continental climate, temperature here varies greatly between day and night. There are about 60 days with wind of more than 8 degrees in a year. Of the ten nationalities residing here, there are the Mongolian (making up 11% of the total population), the Han, Manchu, Hui, Korean, Daur, Evenki, Oroqin and Tibetan. Hohhot now has under its jurisdiction three districts, three leagues and three counties.
