Initiated in 1987, China Wuqiao
International Acrobatic Festival is named after Wuqiao, a world-known hometown
of acrobatics. It is a national level acrobatic festival with the longest
history and largest scale in China.
The festival aims at building up a
world-known competition area for acrobats, promoting the exchange and
development of acrobatic art, further extending the reform and opening-up,
enhancing Sino-foreign understanding, and boosting the development of cultural
industry as well as the whole society. During the festival, the international
acrobatic competition is held in public. Awards of the festival are composed of
the Golden Lion Award, the Silver Lion Award and the Bronze Lion Award. The
organizing committee awards cups and prize money to acrobats that win these
three awards. To encourage some other excellent programs, the organizing
committee also presents several special awards with no prize money.
Wuqiao Circus Festival is held in Shijiazhuang, the capital
city of Hebei Province, only in odd years once every two years, generally in
the last week of October or the first week of November. Up to 2002, the festival
has been successfully held six times. Wuqiao of
China has become an alternative name for China Wuqiao International Acrobatic
Festival. Many celebrities in the international acrobatic circle speak highly of
it after watching the previous festivals.
The idea of launching China Wuqiao
International Acrobatic Festival and creating an oriental competition area in
the world has gained widespread support from international acrobatic circles.
Countries famous for acrobatics have repeatedly sent out their outstanding
acrobats to take part in the competition. Managers of the world's big acrobatic
competition fields and celebrities in the international acrobatic circle have
been invited to sit in the judging panel. As an international competition site,
the festival has formed a set of internationally recognized competition rules
and awarding measures similar to those of other international acrobatic
competitions.
The 9th China Wuqiao
International Acrobatic Festival is to be held in Shijiazhuang of Hubei Province
from November 1 to 9, 2003.
