Wang Xuan's Life Journey

Professor Wang Xuan was conferred the The State Preeminent Scientific and Technical Award by president Jiang Zemin.
Wang Xuan was born in East China's Shanghai Municipality in 1937. At the age of 17, he was admitted to Peking University and began his study as a major in Mathematics and Mechanics in 1954. Upon graduation in 1958, he stayed at his alma mater and became a teacher of the Mathematics and Mechanic Department. A year later, he transferred to the Radio Department, where he stayed until 1978.

In 1978, he was elected director of the Computer Science and Technology Research Institute (CSTR), a post he holds to this day. During his time at Beijing University, he also served as an associate professor and a full professor.

In 1995, he became chairman of Beijing Founder Group Corporation, a position he held until 1998.

He has been vice-chairman of the Central Committee of Jiu San Society since 1995, and vice-chairman of the Chinese Science Association since 1996.

He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 1992 and of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994.

Wang has also worked in China's legislative body. He was the vice-chairman of the 8th CPPCC (China People Political Consultative Conference) National Committee. He also was a member of the Standing Committee of the 9th CPPCC National Committee and vice-chairman of the Education, Science, Culture, and Health Committee of the 9th NPC (National People's Congress). Currently, he serves in the 10th CPPCC.
