Tibet Television (XZTV), established on
August 20, 1985, has two channels, broadcasting 126 hours of programs each week.
Its signals reach more than 400,000 viewers. All programs are broadcast in both
Chinese and Tibetan. XZTV also rebroadcasts programs of two other TV
stations.
XZTV-1, a satellite comprehensive
channel, broadcasts such programs as Tibet News Broadcast (Xizang Xinwen
Lianbo), In Tibet (Zai Xizang), Weekly Report (Meizhou Baodao), Info Window
(Xinxi Chuang) and Economy Angle (Jingji Guangjiao). XZTV-2, covering the urban
district of Lhasa, the capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region, almost has
the same program scheme as XZTV-1.
XZTV has four studios and adopts analog
equipment in its programming. Signals are sent through optical cables from the
broadcast-monitoring center to the satellite uplinking station and the launch
pad. It is now making efforts to digitize its broadcasting devices.
