Classic dance warms up for Gansu Week
A new version of "Silk Road, Flower Rain," a classic Chinese dance show featuring the Silk Road culture and Dunhuang fresco arts, will be staged at Shanghai's Majestic Theatre from June 18 to 20, a warm-up for the week-long cultural show of Gansu Province at the Expo site in September.
The drama was a hit in its 1979 premiere in Shanghai after its successful tour in Hong Kong. The show was staged at the Majestic Theatre for more than 40 times back then.
The drama was designed against the historical background of China’s Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). It tells the story of Yingniang and her father, painting Master Zhang, describing their happiness, sadness and their friendship with a Persian businessman, Enus.
The performance showcases the profound Dunhuang culture and praises the deep friendship between Chinese and overseas people.
