The exhibit in Serbia

China & Eastern Europe – New Views in Chinese Contemporary Art was shown in Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic and Serbia from April to November 2013. International media agencies believed it to be the largest Chinese modern art show ever staged in Central and Eastern Europe. It was hosted by the Ministry of Culture in China.

Representing three generations of Chinese artists, the exhibition featured over 60 artworks by 40 artists, including oil paintings, sculptures, photography, video and design. They are the reflection of artistic observations of social issues in China.

The show was hailed by governments and international media agencies. Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov opened the exhibit and made a speech during its display in Bulgaria; the show was extended for 10 days to meet the demand of Romanian audiences; in the Czech Republic, around $50,000 was donated to Chinese and Czech hospitals to help treat poor children after a charity auction of artworks was held by Chinese and Czech artists; in Serbia, the event was heavily promoted by the government.

Highlight: The show is believed to be the largest Chinese modern art show ever staged in Central and Eastern Europe and was well received by audiences. After three decades of exploration and development, Chinese art has evolved into an important part of art form. Many other countries are eager to learn about China’s latest artistic development and hope to cooperate with China to boost advancments in their own countries.
