Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival in Washington

On January 11th, Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, a dance drama, made its first appearance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. Hong Kong Dance Company and Guangdong Song and Dance Theater performed dance drama.

Like the scenery in the picture, the dance drama’s scenes consist of Pyankung, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, along with its countryside and urban streets. It presents a lively scene of every day life in Pyankung with 16 dances.

Highlight: The playwright-director said that they blended a lot of folk culture and traditional Chinese drama into it thus showing the beauty of Chinese dance. During the one-and-a-half hour performance, the elegant and interesting dances inspired audiences at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to laugh and clap their hands along with the performance. The Washington Post gave Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival a favorable review and said it was a “world-class dance drama” in a on January 14.
