Asia Arts Festival

Boasting more than 25 ethnic minority groups, Yunnan is renowned for its stunning scenery and cultural diversity. On Nov.18, the 13th Asia Arts Festival kicked off in the provincial capital Kunming.

Since it was first held in Beijing in 1998, the biennial Asia Art Festival has been held at various major cities throughout China. Its goal is to not only facilitate regional and international cultural exchange but also to bring art closer to the people. This year’s festival ran through November 27th.

Highlights:

The Pyongyang Art Troupe drummed up the atmosphere on the opening night of the festival. These virtuoso artists from the DPRK represented just one of the 11 countries who participated at the festival.

In addition to the display of song and dance from various nations, audiences also got a taste of the rich ethnic culture indigenous to Yunnan.

And indoor and outdoor theatrical performances aside, the festival also hosted the first Asian Head Librarians' Forum and an Asian Cultural forum as well as an array of art exhibitions, thus creating a more holistic cultural discussion.
