A carnival will be unveiled at the Shanghai Happy Valley on January 23 as a pleasure ground for visitors to spend the forthcoming Spring Festival.

"The six-day event will add happiness to the festival in which family reunion is held," said Xu Fei from the Administration Department of Shanghai OCT Co Ltd.

Xu said the company has taken great pains to invite art troupes from around the country to play performances at the happy valley.

Jiangzhou drum team, for example, which finished performance for the CCTV gala night at New Year's Eve on January 22, will come to play drum performance for tourists at the valley on January 23, the first day of the lunar dragon year.

Other performances will include dragon & lion dances from Shanghai Pudong, puppet shows from Fujian province, the art of making sugar-coated figurines and paper-cutting, street dancing and Jazz, she said.
