Enamel Mug

The enamel mug was once a necessity for Chinese households in 1970s and 1980s. Simple yet durable, it was exclusively used for drinking due to the material scarcity. There would usually be a slogan or quotations from Chairman Mao’s speeches printed on the mugs -- “Serve the people” being the most common. Images of Chairman Mao or Lei Feng were also very common. The enamel mug is not used as often anymore as more people are becoming better off. However, it has gained popularity again recently among young people as a piece of nostalgia.
