Jian Zhen and Kong Hai: the Witness of Cultural Exchange between China and Japan

The exhibition "Jian Zhen and Kong Hai - the Witness of Cultural Communication between China and Japan" is jointly organized by Shanghai Museum and Japan Cultural Ministry. Three ancient carvings were painstakingly selected to highlight this exhibition. They are"Wood Statue of Monk Jianzhen"from Edo era, "Wood Statue of Master Honghai"from Muromachi-Momoyama era and"Wood Statue Niches of Buddhist Gods"from Tang Dynasty. The three wood statues respectively came from Todaiji Temple in Nara and Kongoji Temple in Wakayama. The last among the three is said to be one of the cultural relics that have been taken away from China to Japan by Konghai. The three wood statues are so precious that they can be the symbols of cultural exchange between China and Japan.
