Ingenuity test by floating needle is one of the common customs on the festival. Put some water in a vessel and leave it in the open air until it is covered by a film of dust. Then cast a needle or thin straw on it to see the pattern of the shadow at the bottom, so as to test their ingenuity.

On the Chinese Valentine's Day, people in love like to go to the temple of Matchmaker and pray for their love and the possible marriage in China.

A girl will be more attractive to a suitor if she has talents of one kind or another in addition to being beautiful. In the old days of China, needlework was necessary as part of a girl's dowry.
· Custom of Chinese Valentine's Day (2010-08-11)
Thread needles, cast needles, honoring the weaver girl, celebrating the cattle's birthday, and eating skill foods are all Chinese Valentine's Day customs.
· Cobweb as the Determinant (2010-08-10)
Pleading for skills with cobweb is another common custom in the festival, in which everybody puts a spider into a locket and waits until the next morning to see if there is cobweb and if any, how it looks. The one with a most round cobweb of the most mesh will be the winner.
· Propitious Dumplings (2010-08-10)
The custom of eating propitious dumplings in some places is rather fun: several close friends get together and make dumplings. It is said that the one gets the coin will enjoy blessings, the one gets needle will have deft hands, and the one gets the date will have an early marriage.
· Contest Banquet in the Palace (2010-08-10)
The contest banquet was held in the palace in the Yuan Dynasty on the festival. Before the banquet games were played to test ingenuity.
· Catch Dew (2010-08-10)
In some places, the custom of catching dew with a basin is practiced during the festival. It’s said that the dews on the Double Seventh Festival are the tears of the couple upon their meeting, which will make us dexterous if they are rubbed to our eyes and hands.
· Seventh-sister Party (2010-08-10)
Before the seventh-sister party is held, girls will prepare all kinds of bright "incense burner table" to offer sacrifice to Niulang and Zhinv from afar.
· Double Seventh Festival (2010-08-09)
In China, the Double Seventh Festival, or Ingenuity-begging Festival (the festival to plead for skills) falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar.
