A Long Climb

The following poem is A Long Climb, written by Du Fu who was a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty(618-907).

Great Heights

The gale so strong, the sky so high awake the gibbons wailing cry,

The isles so clear, the sand so white, arrest the wheeling seagulls’ flight.

Through endless space with rustling sound, the falling leaves are whirled around.

Beyond my ken a surging sea The Yangtze’s waves are rolling free

A Thousand miles I have come, filled with the sadness of autumn

A hundred years of endless woe, high I climb with no friends nor foe.

Hardships, bitterness and hate, have made the grey hairs propagate

Weary, newly out of luck, ill fortune coats my wine in a thick dust"
