Expo participants enjoy a tour in Kunshan

A group of foreign participants of Expo 2010 had a great time yesterday, watching classical Kunqu Opera, exploring the historical water town of Zhouzhuang and guzzling beer in Kunshan, a city in neighboring Jiangsu Province.

They were invited by the government of Kunshan, just 50 kilometers west of Shanghai, as part of the Expo’s "Friendship Day" program to help participants learn about Chinese history and culture. Similar trips have been hosted by other Yangtze Delta cities of Jiaxing, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Zhoushan and Yancheng.

Kunqu Opera, which originated in Kunshan about 600 years ago, is the oldest opera form in China and has joined the UNESCO list of The Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Kunshan is also hosting the 12-day 6th International Beer Festival which began yesterday.

The name of the mascot of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China is Hai Bao, which means the treasure of the sea.

The emblem, depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together, symbolizes the big family of mankind.

The theme of Expo 2010 is "Better City, Better Life," representing the common wish of the whole humankind for a better living in future urban environments.
