The Mexico Pavilion yesterday gave a kite, a symbol of union of Mexican and Chinese cultures, to its 2 millionth visitor, a retired teacher from northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

 

Kite, a Chinese invention, is popular in Mexico. "We wanted to give this kite as a gift because it is the symbol Mexico chose to express the union with the Chinese culture," said Ana Garcia, director of the Mexico Pavilion.

The kites on display at the pavilion were designed by famous Mexican artist Francisco Toledo. The one presented to Li Xiangwen, the visitor, was among the exhibits. Li and his family members were also treated to some Mexican delicacies at the pavilion.

The figure 2 million has already beaten Mexico's initial estimate of 1.84 million visitors throughout the Expo.

Daily attendance at the pavilion averaged 19,600.
