Tan Dun promotes his composition "Martial Arts Trilogy"
As the Cultural Ambassador to the World Expo 2010, composer Tan Dun promoted his work "Martial Arts Trilogy," on August 6, which was performed at the same night.
The composition was the rewriting and recreation from his music works in three Chinese movies: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Hero" and "The Banquet".
Tan had cooperated with directors: Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Feng Xiaogang (The Banquet) and Zhang Yimou (Hero) with his music works. Tan used his music to connect the philosophy of martial arts to audio and video art bringing Chinese style humanity spirits and traditional ideals to the world.
The trilogy included three symphonies: cello concerto "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon," dual concerto for Violin and Guqin "Hero", piano and choir of 100 "The Banquet".
The global premiere of the trilogy was played along with multi-media video clips from the three movies at the Culture Center in Expo Site.
The sponsor of the concert, Italian brand Bottega Veneta, “represents a shared commitment to foster young creative talent and nurture the next generation of musicians, designers, and creators”, the brand said in a notice on its official Website.
