Beverage suggestions for Pregnant Women in the Summer

First: Tea

Tea is a good choice of beverage for pregnant women. Tea contains various nutrients such as polyphenols, aromatic oil and minerals, protein, and vitamins. Different tea contains different kinds of ingredients. For example there is a lot of zinc in green tea, but the amount of zinc in black tea is very small. Zinc plays a vital role in keeping the fetus healthy. Therefore, experts believe that pregnant women who are fond of tea can drink pale green tea which is also good for the heart and kidneys, promoting blood circulation and digestion,. However, drinking too much black tea, especially strong black tea is harmful to the fetus. The caffeine in teas can make people excited. Too much caffeine will increase fetal movement and endanger the fetus’ growth and development. The tannin in teas will generate a kind of compound that can’t be absorbed by organism when combined with Fe which is normally found in food. For pregnant women, drinking too much tea may cause anemia during pregnancy which may lead to the fetus having congenital iron-deficiency anemia.

While drinking weak green tea is good for both the pregnant woman and the fetus, the tannin contained in green tea also can affect the absorption of Fe. Therefore, it’s better for pregnant women to drink weak green tea 1 hour after meals.
