大寒宜减咸增苦 多吃味浓热食

The major cold period has arrived, which is the last solar term of winter. Professor Chi Xiaoling of the traditional Chinese medical hospital of Guangdong province pointed out that to stay healthy during the coldest time of the year, people need to eat more bitter food and less salty food. The raw or cold food should always be avoided in this period in favor of hot food. However, the hot and dry food should not be eaten too much. She advised that the flavor of the food eaten at this period can be a little thick and can supply a certain amount of heat.

Semen zizyphi spinosae and semen nelumbinis can be good for people to nourish their vitality and blood. Semen nelumbinis, lily and agaric are good for the heart, liver and kidney. People can choose the “Yuan Zhi date seed porridge” medicated diet, which includes 10 grams of Yuan Zhi, 10 grams of semen zizyphi spinosae and 50 grams of rice. Wash the Yuan Zhi, date seed and rice and put them together into the marmite. Then add some water, and bring it to a boil. Then use a small fire to cook. This kind of porridge is always eaten by people before going to bed at night, because it has the function of nourishing yin and blood and relieves uneasiness of mind and body. The ginger juice can keep the stomach warm and clear from cold. Foods like beef and mutton can keep people warm and clear colds. Medical diets like “the rice with beef and ginger juice” can get rid of a cold. This receipe calls for 100 grams fresh beef, 5 grams of ginger juice, 500 grams of rice and a certain amount of sauce and peanut oil. At first, the fresh beef needs to be cut up, then add some ginger juice. After mixing thoroughly, add sauce and peanut oil. After washing the rice, put all of the materials together into the pot. After steaming for about 15 minutes, the food is ready to eat when the beef is cooked. This diet can be good for qi and stomach, which can also nourish deficiency and detumescence.
