‘Poem of Kung Fu - Nine Scrolls’ wows audiences in Belgium

China’s first epic culture performance in Belgium, Poem of Kung Fu - Nine Scrolls, made its final curtain call in Antwerp recently. The performance, held as part of the Europalia Art Festival with the theme “Colorful China”, received heavy coverage by European media.

Nine Scrolls, China’s first stage performance to show poetry and Zen by combining Chinese kung fu with dancing, was invited to be a part of the Europalia Art Festival, a major art festival in Europe.

During the two performances, no empty seat could be found. At the end of the show, a sentence in Chinese, English and Dutch, saying “Thank you, outstanding Chinese traditional culture”, appeared on the screen, which was met with long applause.

According to the theatre, the performance was an exceptional success, and the DVD version of Nine Scrolls sold out. Xia Wanfa, China’s Cultural Counselor to Belgium, said Nine Scrolls was the messenger of Chinese culture.

“One of the biggest comforts for every Chinese is to see that Chinese culture can be promoted by art and can touch people of different backgrounds. That’s also the goal of every Chinese culture messenger,” said Yu Yang, president of Poly Agency, the producer of Poem of Kung Fu - Nine Scrolls.
