HK Chinese Orchestra Ensemble  
 

Founded in 1977, the HK Chinese Orchestra is the only professional orchestra playing traditional Chinese instruments. The orchestra at present has 85 musicians, and is divided into four sections: bowed strings, plucked strings, wind and percussion instruments. Its wide repertoire explores both traditional music and contemporary works. Acclaimed for its outstanding promotion of Chinese music, the HK Chinese Orchestra has already performed more than two thousand concerts worldwide. At europalia.china, an ensemble of nine musicians will be presenting a programme focusing on poetry and calligraphy.

About Europalia Arts Festival
Europalia is a major international arts festival held every two years to celebrate one invited country’s cultural heritage. Its name is a combination of two words: “Europe” and “Opalia,” an ancient Roman harvest festival held in mid-December in honor of Ops, earth-goddess and fertility deity.
