Liu Sola is a renowned composer, vocalist and award-winning writer. Her music work including composition & text for theater, television, film, modern ensemble, symphony orchestral and opera so on, she has been collaborated with jazz, rock, blues, traditional & classical musicians world- wide. Her new libretto and music composition is a chamber opera called The Afterlife of Li Jiantong (2009), commissioned & world premiered by Paul Hillier’s Theatre of Voices. Liu Sola & Friends ensemble is made up of all top Chinese instrumental soloists, such as the drum king Li Zhengui, Zhang Yangsheng, Pipa virtuoso Yang Jing so on. In 2006, the ensemble performed with Ensemble Modern (Germany) for Liu Sola’s chamber opera Fantasy of the Red Queen with Liu Sola as the libretto and music composer, as well as the artistic director and leading vocalist. Over the years, Liu Sola & Friends ensemble has become a highlight group for many major festivals around the world.
