Hanggai Band

For China’s minorities, music is a way of guaranteeing the long-term survival of their cultures. While Beijing may seem a strange place for the revival of Mongol folk music, the Hanggai Band has succeeded in fascinating the city’s music scene with its blend of “Mongol ethnic music” and contemporary influences. The success of the band, described by the Beijing media as “one of the best soul bands in the capital”, symbolises a yearning to return to the roots.
