Beijing Vision

The Beijing Modern Dance Company is one of China’s main professional modern dance companies. Created in 1995 by the municipal Bureau of Culture in Beijing, the Company became independent in 1998. In nearly fifteen years of existence, the Company has contributed considerably to the development of contemporary arts in China and to bringing the image of modern China to the rest of the world. In 1996, it won the Wenhua Prize, the highest cultural award bestowed by the Chinese government.

The Beijing Modern Dance Company has been invited to the world’s most prestigious venues, such as the Opéra de Paris, the Berlin House of World Cultures, and the Joyce Theatre in New York, and to major festivals, such as the Venice Biennial, the Singapore Arts Festival, the Canada Dance Festival, the International Theatre Festival in Tokyo, the Bahia Festival in Brazil, and many others.

About Europalia Arts Festival
Europalia is a major international arts festival held every two years to celebrate one invited country’s cultural heritage. Its name is a combination of two words: “Europe” and “Opalia,” an ancient Roman harvest festival held in mid-December in honor of Ops, earth-goddess and fertility deity.
